Green Bay made the wrong move trading Favre to Jets

What could turn out to be one of the most puzzling moves of all time occurred recently when the Green Bay Packers traded Brett Favre to the New York Jets.

Favre played for the Packers for 16 seasons and led them to the Super Bowl XXXI title in 1997.

In my opinion, he is one of three players who come to mind when you think of the organization.

The other two are Vince Lombardi and Bart Starr.

It still puzzles me to think: why would you give away a future hall-of- famer for one draft pick? Favre plays every game at full speed and at times does things that most other quarterbacks can only dream about.

With Favre gone from Green Bay, the ball is now in the hands of third-year player Aaron Rodgers.

Over that span the only significant playing time that he saw was against the Dallas Cowboys last season when Favre was injured.

That begs the question: why let Favre go and get nothing of value in return?

If Rodgers does fail, I can guarantee that Packer fans will complain about Favre being sent packing.

On the other side of the coin, the Jets definitely got the good end of the deal.

If New York is smart, they would hand the reins to Favre and let him lead the organization back to an AFC East title and maybe even a Super Bowl championship.

Looking over the roster, he’ll have plenty of offensive talent to throw to, most notably Laveranues Coles, Jerricho Cotchery and former Packer teammate Bubba Franks.

However, the Jets and Favre will have their hands full in the loaded AFC East standings.

They have to face the New England Patriots, the up-and-coming Buffalo Bills and a Miami Dolphins’ team that has nowhere to go but up.

If Favre can bring the magic that he had in Green Bay to the Jets, they should be in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Time will only tell how the Favre and New York experiment will play out, but it sure does look good on paper.
