Princeton’s only assisted living and independent living facility will soon be expanding to provide care of people in need of nursing, physical therapy and rehabilitation, thanks to a new expansion project, ground for which was broken on May 1.

Villa Asuncion co-owners Dr. Asuncion Acosta and Dr. Eduardo Acosta, who practice in McKinney, said the expansion would include a wing for dementia treatment on the east side of the main building, physical therapy and out-patient rehabilitation on the west side, and a 40-bed nursing home behind the main building on the ground floor, and assisted living on the second floor.

“I had patients years ago who kept pushing for it,” Dr. Asuncion Acosta said. “It is also something that is needed because the community is growing.”

The new additions will be fully staffed with full-time physical therapists and nurses, said Dr. Eduardo Acosta.

“It will be just like a skilled unit with physical therapists, speech therapists,” he said.

About 30 associates and staff members attended the groundbreaking Thursday, with a reception in the lobby of the main building at 830 E. Princeton Dr.

The facility currently houses 52 apartments for assisted and independent living with access to a chapel, library, music room, game room, courtyard, private family party rooms, a salon and dining hall.

Administrator Wanda Floyd said the facility is at capacity right now.

“There’s never a dull moment here,” she said.
