Past PHS athletes continue careers in college

Have you ever wondered what happened to those former Princeton athletes who signed to play a sport in college?

After going back to past stories and a little bit of internet research, I was able to come up with a list of the ones who have signed during the last few years.

Football
• Isaac Marrufo is a sophomore wide receiver at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Ark.

• TJ Mead is a sophomore center at Southern Arkansas University.

• Colton Clay is a freshman linebacker at Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark.

• David Lopez was a lineman at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Baseball
• Jake Abbott is a freshman pitcher at Grayson County College in Denison.

Basketball
Women’s
• Hayley Fields is a sophomore guard at Palm Beach Atlantic University in Palm Beach, Fla. She was named to the NCCAA National All-Tournament team during the 2008-’09 season.

• Whitney Coffey is a sophomore guard-forward at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Okla. Prior to that, she played at Lamar University in Beaumont.

Men’s
• James Erger is a freshman guard at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.

• Chase Spruiell is a sophomore guard at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. He transferred from St. Edwards in Austin. 

• Bryce Ivy is a redshirt sophomore guard at Angelina College in Lufkin. As a freshman he attended Seminole State Junior College in Seminole, Okla.

Volleyball
• Rachel Robertson is a freshman middle blocker at Texas A&M University-Commerce. 

• Holly Wallace is a sophomore at Vernon College in Wichita Falls.

Softball
• Britnie Weddle is freshman first baseman at Vernon College.

Cross County
Men’s
• Mitchell Driver is a sophomore at South Plains College in Levelland. He also runs on the track and field team during the cross country offseason.

• Justin Nickel is a freshman at Clarendon College in Clarendon.

Women’s
• Deanne Nunez is a freshman at Clarendon College.

Other area athletes playing a sport at either the university or junior college level are:

• Farmersville’s Quincy Roberts was a running back at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens.

• Farmersville’s Rachel Warriner is a freshman outside hitter-right side at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.

• Farmersville’s Austin Adams is a sophomore pitcher at East Texas Baptist University.

• Community’s B.J. Dale is a freshman guard at Dallas Baptist University.
