Three men were arrested on assault charges Aug. 17 and 18, after an attack that took place Aug. 7 at the intersection of CR 546 and CR 392.

Warrants for “assault causing bodily injury” were issued to Taylon Gardner, 17, Nick Cantrell, 19, and Jacob Exler, 18.

According to John Norton, the Collin County Sheriff's Public Information Officer, the men followed Princeton resident William Grace and forced him to stop his vehicle.

Grace was then assaulted by three or four men, and later transported to the hospital by family members.

Gardner was arrested in Princeton on Monday, Aug. 17, the same day Exler surrendered himself to the Princeton PD.

Cantrell was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the home of his friend Kyle Adams III, who was also arrested for attempting to interfere with Cantrell’s arrest. Police officials said Adams provided false information to officers in order to conceal his friend’s whereabouts.

Each of the teens has been booked into the Collin County jail. The Sheriff’s office may be in the process of issuing further warrants related to the assault.

*On Aug. 19 Steven Holbrook was also arrested on assault causing bodily injury charges related to this incident. Avyn Boldon, who has been in jail since Aug. 9 for possession of a dangerous drug, has also been charged with the same Class A misdemeanor for his alleged involvement in the attack.

By Friday, only Boldon and Cantrell remained in jail. The other suspects were released after posting bond.

In response to calls from parents and citizens, Princeton's Police Chief Jeff Barnett stated Aug. 21 that the department has looked into allegations of gang activity. "It is illegal to participate in gang activity," Barnett said.  "We take all reports seriously."

"We have spoken with most of the teenagers whose names have been mentioned," he said. At this time there is no evidence of organized criminal activity, Barnett said, though he said the department will continue to follow up on leads they are given.
