Over 100 students auditioned and 33 were cast. "It was very difficult determining who would be best," Denny said. " A few students did stand out though, she said, for example Sirena-Raye Bingman who was cast as the Wicked Witch. "The girls were asked to do a witch's cackle. Two went hehe and then one came up and just let loose with the best cackle. We knew she was the witch."

 

Another character, Dorothy, was also easy to cast Denny said. "The girl for Dorothy (Camerin Edmonds) really got into her audition. She took initiative with the dialogue and acted a bit."

 

Denny had help selecting actors from Melissa McClure who will help prepare the musical, as well as other faculty members. "We had to pick those that could sing and dance since they are in multiple numbers.  I feel like we chose correctly," Denny said, noting how much potential she saw.

 

The cast will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays until their two-day production May 8 and 9 at Princeton High School. Of her play selection, Denny said, "Oz is one of my favorite stories. I love the whole idea of being on a journey and your friends coming along with you.  It's very real life!"
