Watering restrictions relaxed

After months of being in Stage 3 enhanced water restrictions, things are looking better at Lake Lavon and for surrounding water users.
The North Texas Municipal Water District board moved to reduce water restrictions back down to Stage 3. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also decided to release water from the dam to travel downstream.
The USACE has flood control and is over the protection of life and property.
When Lake Lavon reaches the normal elevation of 492, the USACE releases water according to long-standing flood control procedures.
With the recent rains, the lake was above that level, so the lake was lowered to 492.7 feet.
According to information provided by the USACE, water will not be released out of Lake Lavon after it returns to its normal level.
As far as water restrictions are concerned, the NTMWD board voted unanimously to go back to a modified Stage 3 plan at the specially called March 30 meeting. The new changes took effect April 1.
