It’s been just over a year since Jerry Barnes moved his family and his business to Princeton. But the owner of Black Angus Meats has already made himself right at home.
In fact, talking to the 72-year-old grill chef, you’d think he had lived in Princeton all his life.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Barnes said of his new homestead. The 42-year butcher veteran moved from Utah last year to open his shop in Princeton.
Barnes looked at places in Sherman, McKinney, Denton and other cities before settling on Princeton, both because of its location and its people. Some people will travel 30 miles to get a good steak, he said. Princeton is a prime location for residents all across Collin County looking for quality meet, but it’s also home to “fantastic” people, Barnes said.
He’s learned that through spending weekends at the shop talking to customers. “They’re just nice people,” he said, adding that word-of-mouth has done wonders for his business.
Of course, Barnes said his money-back guarantee hasn’t hurt either. “If they’re not completely satisfied I’ll give ‘em their money back,” Barnes said. That attitude has helped drive in repeat and referral business also, he said. Joining the chamber has also boosted sales.
“We like to support any community we’re in. The Chamber of Commerce is a plus in anyone’s business,” he said. It helps customers know that you have a trustworthy establishment, Barnes said.
For anyone who has not yet tried Black Angus’ products, Barnes recommends the steak, which is “nothing but certified angus steak, choice and prime.”
Black Angus Meats is located at 111 Ticky Drive. For more information, including catering services, call 972-736-2272.
