IESI employees load bins on trailers and trucks, for delivery Dec. 1.

A mound of blue bins arrived at the intersection of Sixth and Main Tuesday morning. The sight of stacked containers is good news for Princeton residents who are ready to go green. The bins mark the start of the long-awaited curbside recycling program the City initiated through its trash service provider, IESI. According to IESI employees at the scene, the bins should be distributed throughout the city by the end of the day.

Along with the recycling bins, IESI distributed fliers filled with helpful tips on recycling and bulk pick up, which is available every other month.

Recycling pick up will be every other Thursday, beginning Dec. 10. Residents should roll their blue recycling bins to the curb, along with their trash bins on those days.

Items that may be recycled include various types of plastic, aluminum, steel, tin, paper, boxboard, cardboard and lass.
Styrofoam, grocery bags, oil and chemical bottles, aluminum foil, aerosol bottles, paint cans, wax paper and cartons, light bulbs, mirrors, auto and plate glass are not permitted.

Bulk pick up will be offered on the third Saturday, every other month, but only by request.
Bins and additional items should be placed on the curb Friday night prior to pick up. The next dates for bulk pick-up are Jan. 16, and March 20.

To schedule a bulk pick up residents must call the city’s Utility Billing Department at 972-736-2711. The .95 cent charge is added to every bill, whether residents take advantage of the service or not.

Residents can use the service to clear furniture, all appliances (refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners must have certificates verifying that all Freon has been removed), and bundled brush. Brush should be tied in four to five foot lengths.

All bulk items should be able to be cleared by two men in no more than five minutes. Small items that will not fit in the trash can should be contained in boxes, cans or bundles to prevent litter.

Paint, oils, automotive parts containing fluids, pool chemicals, batteries, tires and construction materials generated by a contractor may not be included.

Items that are not contained in the trash bins will not be removed during weekly pick up.

To request roll-off services at an additional charge call IESI at 469-452-8000. To initiate a new service, call the city’s Utility Billing Department at 972-736-2711.
